The Core Concept

TriviaFlow is not a typical website where everyone sees the same thing. Instead, it simulates a TV Game Show environment by splitting the interface into three distinct "Views."

Understanding these roles is key to running a successful event. TriviaFlow is a real-time system where everything happens instantly across all devices.

The Three Views

A typical game session involves three types of screens, each serving a distinct purpose:

1. The Stage (Lobby View)

This is the "Passive View". It is designed to be displayed on a large screen, projector, or TV at the front of the room.

  • Where: On the big screen in the front of the room
  • Who sees it: Everyone in the audience
  • Function: It acts as the single source of truth for the audience
  • Content:
    • Shows the Join Code and QR Code before the game starts
    • Displays the Question Text, Options, and Media (Images)
    • Shows the animated Timer counting down
    • Reveals the Leaderboard between rounds
  • Interaction: No one interacts with this screen directly (no mouse/keyboard needed once set up)

Note: This view is passive. You don't interact with it directly.

2. The Controller (Game Master)

This is the "Active Control". It is designed to be used by the host on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop.

  • Where: On the Host's smartphone or tablet
  • Who sees it: Only you (The Host)
  • Function: It gives you full control over the game flow without the audience seeing what you are doing
  • Capabilities:
    • Remote Control: Start questions, show results, move to next
    • Start/Stop the timer
    • Skip to the next question
    • Moderation: See who joins, kick offensive names
    • Kick players who misbehave
    • Inject Quizzes dynamically into a running session
    • Insights: See how many players answered correctly in real-time
  • Security: This view is protected. You must be logged in as an Admin to access it, regardless of whether you scan the QR code or enter the URL manually
Detailed Guide

The "Remote Control" Metaphor

Think of the Game Master view as the remote control for your TV. You hold it in your hand, walk around the room, and control what happens on the "Stage."

3. The Player (Mobile View)

This is the "Interactive View". It is designed for smartphones and optimized for mobile networks.

  • Where: On each participant's smartphone
  • Who sees it: The players
  • Function: It turns the user's phone into a game buzzer
  • User Experience:
    • Login: Enter Nickname
    • No App Required: Runs entirely in the browser
    • Wake Lock: Automatically prevents the phone screen from turning off during the game
    • Game: 4 large buttons (A, B, C, D) to answer
    • Haptic Feedback: Buttons provide visual feedback when tapped
    • Feedback: Green screen (Correct) or Red screen (Wrong)
  • Reconnection: If a player loses connection (e.g., closes the browser), they can rejoin with the same name and code to restore their score

How a Session Works

Here's the typical flow of a TriviaFlow game session:

  1. Setup: The Host logs into the Admin Panel, creates a session, and opens the Lobby View on the projector.
  2. Join Phase: The Lobby displays a QR Code. Players scan it to join. The Host watches the names appear on the Game Master dashboard.
  3. Game Loop:
    • Host clicks "Start Game"
    • Lobby shows "Question 1". Player phones show answer buttons
    • Question appears on Lobby and Player devices simultaneously
    • Players tap their answer (A, B, C, or D)
    • Timer runs out OR everyone answers (or Host stops it)
    • Lobby shows correct answer. Player phones show result (Green or Red)
    • Lobby reveals the correct answer and updates the leaderboard
    • Gamemaster clicks "Next" → Leaderboard
  4. End: The session ends, and the final winner is crowned on the Lobby screen.
